I picked up this book, because I’m all about the dystopian theme in YA. I wasn’t sure if I would care for this one or not, but figured it was worth a shot in the end since it seemed fairly popular. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the end.
The book was written in a fast-paced easy to read style, which is nice, kept me entertained. The premise was interesting albeit a bit shallow, but I knew that going in. It was enough to keep me reading. I might even read the second one, but I wouldn’t go out and buy it.
My main problem with the book was the sense that something was going to happen – and then it never did. At the end I was left feeling as though nothing happened at all. And I felt like there wasn’t enough urgency. Really, why was this a big deal? How was this all really important? In the end, I couldn’t help feeling that it just wasn’t.
This just didn’t meet my expectations for a good dystopian, though it more or less met the basic requirements. It reminds me of Delirium by Lauren Oliver. I enjoyed the writing, but wasn’t impressed with the story.

I felt exactly the same about this whole series. Enjoyed reading it, but it was really just a load of nothing.

Yes, that is EXACTLY how I felt. I’ve read Elite also, but found I liked that one even less. I felt like they were *trying* to give it more depth and just sort of failed. But there was so much hope in the premise… I think it actually needed to be darker to have been more engaging, at least for me.
